Eric Battaglioli Ph.D.

Eric Battaglioli Ph.D. is an experienced microbiologist and educator. He completed his doctoral degree at University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology studying bacterial genetics and pathogenesis. He then transitioned to the Mayo Clinic for his postdoctoral training where he examined microbiome and host-microbe interactions in the gut using germ-free models, advanced anaerobic culture techniques, and cutting-edge multi-omics sequencing and metabolic technologies. His current focus is on how microbes work together with the host to create metabolic environments in the gut that either promote or inhibit our health and wellbeing. Further, he strives to devise ways to modulate these complex interactions to correct microbiome-based deficiencies and translate these methods to patients at an individual level. Dr. Battaglioli has presented his research at national and international conferences and published findings in field leading peer reviewed journals. Dr. Battaglioli is also an experienced educator and mentor. He has taught courses at the undergraduate, graduate, medical school, and residency/fellowship level and has served as a laboratory research mentor for students, trainees, and fellows for the last 10 years. When he is not teaching, in the lab, or diving into the latest microbiome literature, you can find him spending time with his wife and son or exploring the roads and trails around Lexington, KY on his bicycles.
